I sit quietly, regarding the empty compartments of the weekly pill organiser.

Time to refill it. It is Saturday again.

These pills, ten and a half taken every morning and five every evening – plus an iron supplement taken every second day (because it causes constipation), keep me going.

Metaphorically – or not – they replace love, family, professional pride, enthusiasm for sport and hobby, pets, wildlife, aquaria and frog ponds. Things that kept me going.

Again. It is empty again.

I look into the compartments, each a morning or an afternoon, and try to recall how it was I filled them. How I took again from them the medicine of each hour, and used it.

  1. Very down. So, are you going to change it?
As I see it you have better access to medical service over there but no access to all the other things you mentioned.
If you move to N.Z. would you go to Wellington or to somewhere else?
Without working you cannot afford Auckland rents, and obviously, your self-confidence has taken a bad knock.
You are smart enough to see where your current situation is heading, so sooner or later you must make some decisions.
Ask people you trust for advice.

    1. Moving back to NZ would cost me too much. I’d end up abandoning once again everything I have put together. There is nowhere in NZ I could afford to go. I can’t work any more. In Oz I get my NZ pension and it is topped up by Australia by $400 a fortnite, plus rent assistance. That makes it worth putting in time working in places most Australian professionals don’t want to go.

There are places here I can live for extended periods for free without being moved on. As you point out, the health care seems better. The cock up with my left arm is my only complaint.

As for being down, it happens. I’m just as likely to find Dark Places in Aotearoa as in Terra Australis.
