A couple of melanomas are enough to make one start taking seriously the exhortations of the public health system to cover up, slop on some sunscreen and wear a hat. Fortunately I have a stylish Akubra hat already.
I have invested $60 in a sunproof (SPF30+) long sleeved shirt, a product which unfortunately seems to be available only in gaudy garish colours featuring fish images. Mine has what Joe says is a mackerel. I think it is a barracuda. The shirt proudly announces loudly on the back it belongs to Bribie Island. On the front, in a more subdued shout it tells the world about Bribie Bait, Tackle and Bikes.
I usually resent the idea of paying $60 to wear an advertisement for someone’s business, but Joe at BBT&B has been super helpful with free service and advice on a new bike I didn’t buy from him. Besides, there wasn’t much choice.
That left Sunscreen. After paying a small fortune for swimproof 4 hour SPF50+ at the pharmacy, I found it for a quarter of the price at Aldi. Ah well.
And so it is, with my armour and heraldry, magical potion and hat, I go forth to do battle with the sun god.
